Choose a complementary color pair and begin coloring in the first row of squares, alternating colors.

Alternate the starting color of the next row to create a checkerboard pattern.

Continue coloring the background squares in a checkerboard pattern. Do not color any portion of the square that is within the drawing of the object or word.
