Drive the rear leg up and across the body slightly so that it is tucked like a wing. Keep the body upright, with your weight on the standing foot for balance.

Keeping the knee high, turn the standing foot so that the heel faces is direction of the target. This causes body to turn. prepare to strike with the outside edge or heel of the kicking foot.

After you hit the target, immediately snap the leg back in. This is to stop the opponent catching the leg, to speed up the finishing phase neatly, and to prevent over extending the kick.
