If your device is frozen or you are having trouble powering down for some reason,a hard reset might be necessary.All you need to do is hold the power button and the home button down for about 5 sec.
The phone will then power down and you will see the apple logo and then the screen will go black.Once the phone is completely powered down you can then restart it in the normal fashion
