First of all, this is a trick I would recommend practicing into a pit or mat before attempting on ground. The forward motion with the backflip can feel scary at first. Unless you're a daredevil.

Stay on the toes of your blocking foot, and swing your dominant leg through, throwing your arms to the sky, and lifting with your hips. Give this motion EVERYTHING you've got!

This is the key to a gainer...push your hips out far away from your body as you go up! Your hips will guide you through the gainer and determine the distance you will cover! Very Important!
