First of all, this is a trick I would recommend practicing into a pit or mat before attempting on ground. The forward motion with the backflip can feel scary at first. Unless you're a daredevil.
Begin with a jogging start. Reach out with your WEAK leg and plant it firmly into the ground in front of you; This is the block and the foundation of your height and control. Make sure you can do this
Stay on the toes of your blocking foot, and swing your dominant leg through, throwing your arms to the sky, and lifting with your hips. Give this motion EVERYTHING you've got!
This is the key to a gainer...push your hips out far away from your body as you go up! Your hips will guide you through the gainer and determine the distance you will cover! Very Important!
Once you have reached your peak, you should be hollow enough to get a strong tuck. Bring your knees to your chest as you pull yourself over with your core strength.
Get ready to spot your landing.
Spot the landing and open up. (Sorry for the picture quality)
Always land with knees bent and on the balls of your feet.
Now get on youtube and watch other tutorials! I watched at least 15 different tutorials for each trick when learning. They all have something different to offer, one may even click with you!
