STEPS
INGREDIENTS
You've bought apples or picked apples or grown your own apples and you want to make a great snack that's healthy and will keep for a good, long time. So...
You decide to peel the apples. You don't have to if you'd like the peel left on or you're too lazy to take it off (Jan's take: organic, leave on...not organic, remove). Hand peel or use a peeler.
Peel the apples. Save the peels to dehydrate on their own or compost. What do you do with dehydrated peels? I suggest pulverizing or chopping to add to homemade tea bags.
See how this peeler can slice while it peels? Sort of like jumping rope & chewing gum at the same time. Or riding a bike & singing. Or riding a bike & jumping rope at the same time. Well not quite
Here you see a bald apple, peel ready for the compost pile, and the core for some fortunate animal. Yeah, I'm sweet like that.
This is the fun part. (and the easy part). One slice through the apple gives you many beautiful slices ready to dehydrate. It looks like you spent hours slicing and dicing. Nope.
Aren't they cute? Aren't you impressed? They're like little smiles. Or frowns. Oh, bummer. Let's turn those frowns upside down and make more Joy in the world!
One apple weighs 6 oz before drying. I'll weigh it again after drying. Then we'll see the difference in the cost of one raw apple and one dried one. We'll feel like scientists. On a secret mission
Soak the happy slices in a lemon water solution. That's more scientist talk. it keeps the apples looking like they're freshly cut. Pretty tricky. I like freshly cut things...flowers, grass, hair..
Line them up on the drying trays. Don't have a dehydrator? Whatya waiting' for?!? I can teach you amazing things once you get one. No, I don't sell them. But I did write a book about drying food
These apples are freshly cut. Bet you remember that part. No toppings on these Did you know you could get your apples with toppings? Yeah, just like ice cream except we'll do cinnamon toppings.
Cinnamon toppings! No sugar. No honey. Just cinnamon sprinkled to your liking.
I buy LOTS of yummy cinnamon.
The bones. Well, apples don't really have bones but please don't mention that to them. . A comment like that is sure to hurt them to the core. Yeah, I just made that up. On the spot. Amazing,, I know.
The apples are behind closed doors right now. Well, behind one closed door. The dehydrator door. I'll show you the finished apples tomorrow. Meanwhile it smells like The House of Apple Pie around here
