Decorate a Speckled Chocolate Easter Egg Cake

STEPS
INGREDIENTS
Whip up a vanilla buttercream, here is a recipe I enjoy using for all my cakes and cupcakes: http://annezca.blogspot.ca/2014/12/vanilla-buttercream-icing.html
Use a cake spatula to stir in the colour. Add food colouring very little at a time.
This is the colour you should have by the end - aim for a robin egg blue.
I made a multilayer chocolate cake, here is my go-to recipe for chocolate cake: http://annezca.blogspot.ca/2014/12/chocolate-layer-cake.html
Spread the icing on the first layer.
Dirty ice a multilayer cake, here's my tutorial on how to ice a multilayer cake: http://annezca.blogspot.ca/2014/12/how-to-ice-multi-layer-cake.html
I'm using a bench scraper to smooth out the dirty icing layer of the cake: http://annezca.blogspot.ca/2014/12/how-to-ice-multi-layer-cake.html
Now you have a nice canvas to decorate your easter cake.
Next we are going to work on chocolate speckles. Add 1 tbsp of vanilla extract to 1 tsp of cocoa powder.
Mix together
I used a chopstick and dip on the cocoa powder/vanilla extract and dab randomly around your cake. Make the speckles different sizes.
Continue on the top of the cake as well as at the side of the cake.
Keep going until the whole cake has been decorated.
Next we are going to add our little Easter Egg Nests! I purchased "Cadbury Flake" from the grocery store, and Cadburry Mini Eggs that are pastel coloured.
I used extra icing to place on the bottom of the easter eggs to stick to the top of the cake.
Place the eggs on top of the cake.
Here I put them in groups of three and 2.
We are going to work on the "nest" next. Use a knife to slice the cadbury flake in half. This crumbles a LOT so have a dish to catch the pieces. Or use milk chocolate shavings.
Place the cadbury flake chocolate pieces around the eggs to create a nest.
This is what it should look like.
Voila you are done! To see more pictures of the cake: http://annezca.blogspot.ca/2015/04/speckling-chocolate-easter-egg-cake.html
