here we goooo... part 5: half double crochet!!! i wasn't sure in which order i do double and half double crochet, but i decided to make half double the second because its a little less common :)

half double crochet (short: hdc) is a variation of the double crochet stitch we learned in part 4. it is about 1,5 times as high as a single crochet.

first you need your foundation chain.

first you need your foundation chain.

if you want your work to be 20 stitches again, you'll have to chain 22 in the foundation chain. 20 for the stitches and 2 for the turning.

when making the foundation chain, remember some patterns count the turning chain as an actual stitch. therefore you need to make one chain less. check in the pattern description befor you start :)

we skip the first 2 chains, yarn around and insert your hook in the third chain (where the siccors are pointing at)

yarn around again and...

... pull trough the first loop on your hook. you have 3 loops again (it's the same like the double crochet)... yarn around and...

and you get your second half double crochet :) now keep going till you reach the end of the row.

there we go... at the end of the row we yarn around and pull trough the loop on the hook to form a chain

2 chains will form our turning chain. turn your work clockwise

yarn around and insert your hook under both loops on top of the half double crochet of your previous row.

pull trough the top loops and yarn around again.

pull trough the 3 loops on your hook. that's the first half double crochet of your second row. keep going till you reach the end of your row.

you might have noticed that you're getting a straighter edge then you do with double crochet. the chain 2 turning chain works just fine :)

tricky last stitch... like always :)

and the finished 2nd row :)

half double crochet is one of my favorit stitches. its higher than a single crochet but creates a denser fabric than double crochet... it's the perfect middleway :)

now go get your hook and practice ;) kisses&hugs :*

leave me a comment how you liked it!!! i'm happy about every feedback! :)
