How to create a steamy 5x7 canvas

Tear strip of Graphic 45 paper to fit corner of 5x7 canvas. Adhere with matte medium.

Adhere Sin City Stamps laser cut gear shapes to canvas with matte medium.

Cover entire canvas with light wash of white gesso.

Add washes of Adirondack re-inkers in Stream, Meadow, Caramel and Mushroom.

Stamp Sin City Stamps winged dress form and steam engine onto deli wrap with StazOn Spiced Chai.

Tear out steam engine image and adhere to canvas with matte medium. The re-inkers are reacting with the matte medium and coloring the deli wrap as I apply it.

To prevent color migration, spray canvas with Krylon Workable Fixatif, let dry. Then adhere Sin City Stamps winged dress form with matte medium. See the difference between the two images?

Outline steam engine with fine black Pitt artist pen.

Outline winged dress form with Peanut Brittle Memento marker, color bodice with Nautical Blue and Pistachio Memento markers.

Stamp smaller gear from Sin City Stamps Steampunk'd Christmas set in center of laser cut gear die with StazOn Spiced Chai.

Sponge distress inks over canvas and die cut in Peacock Feathers, Rusty Hinge, Shabby Shutters, and Wild Honey. Sponge StazOn orange zest randomly over canvas gears and around steam engine.

Die cut chipboard with Courtyard die. Add a wash of white gesso, distress inks, and stamp images from Sin City Stamps Steampunk'd Christmas and Art Journaling stamp plates in StazOn Spiced Chai.

Add Distress ink colors over die cut. Pop out a few of the centers.

Adhere die cut to left side of canvas with matte medium or glue. Add centers from mirror sheet die cut to openings.

Stamp "STEAM" onto smooth white card stock with StazOn Spiced Chai. Cut out, distress edges, color with a brown distress ink, adhere with foam dots.

Add shadows with a charcoal pencil and blending stump, or your finger.

Add Derwent Inktense Blocks colors to winged dress form to further intensify the image. Add metal embellishments.
