How to create a self-watering plant system

Locate the center of the soda bottle and carefully pierce with a knife. Be careful!

Stick your scissors in between the slit and cut all away around. It doesn't have to be perfect.

This step is optional but I lined the sharp edge with some tape, just so I wouldn't accidentally cut myself.

Sorry for the blurry picture. The next step is to gather around 3-5 strands of yarn. The length doesn't really matter as long as it touches the bottom.

Drill a hole in the center of the soda cap.

Line your yarn through a bobby pin....

Like so..

Push the start of the bobby pin into the soda cap.

.... Once pulled through, braid the string down.

Now you can add soil

Start adding and.....

Add water to the bottom.

Plant your seeds..

And watch them grow!

Make sure to place them in a well lit area for maximum sun 'time'

The reason it works is because : The water from the bottom is wicked up through the string and waters the soil above.

I really wish I had taken a picture of them when they were really full but you get the gist of it. If you want you can even replant it in a larger pot or outside when they need more space.
