How to create a rustic faux crackle background

Stamp the Les Roses background image on sheets of Newsprint Paper with Watering Can Archival Ink. Cut up and layer over a blank canvas using Distress Matte Collage Medium.

Spread an uneven layer of Translucent Embossing Paste over the canvas. Spray the All Cracked Up stamp with a little water and press into the wet paste. Repeat until the background is covered. Air dry.

Brush a thin layer of Vintage Distress Collage Medium over the dry background and heat set. Scribble a Peeled Paint Distress Crayon over the dry background and blend with your finger or a dry sponge.

Scribble some Twisted Citron Distress Crayon over the background and blend with your finger or a dry sponge.

Scribble Walnut Stain Distress Crayon along the edges of your canvas and into the 'crackled' areas, blending with your finger or a dry sponge.

Apply Gold Embossing Paste through the Ferns stencil and allow to air dry. Repeat until you have the number of fronds you require.

Mix a couple of drops of Fern Green Reinker and one of Potting Soil Reinker into some white embossing paste and mix thoroughly. Apply through the Ferns Stencil and allow to dry.

Repeat stamp the Cut Flowers on Newsprint Paper using Potting Soil Ink and stick to Modelling Film with Collage Medium. Colour with Distress Crayons, blending with a water brush. Cut out and heat set.

To finish, layer up your moulded flowers over the stencilled ferns. Add some little gold butterflies and a coordinating sentiment.
