Paint a piece of water color paper with watercolor concentrate. Light colors will provide more contrast.
Lightly draw an image. I used Edward Hopper as a reference for high contrast and moody light. Contour images work well and images with a lot of dark spaces.
Paint the areas that you want to remain light with gouache. This is my neighbor's portrait. Avoiding contour lines is recommended.Allow gouache to dry completely.
Paint over dry gouache with Speedball India ink. Allow ink to dry completely.
Nice and dry.
Place in a tub of water. Soak a moment.
Slosh around gently to remove desired amount of gouache.
Allow to dry.
Great contrast!
Use water color or prisma colors to finish.
