How to create a cardboard block print

Collect supplies: pencil, cardboard pieces, xacto knife, brayer, acrylic paint (or speedball ink), and paper (or what ever you want to print on.

Draw your design on the cardboard using a pencil. If you use typography it should be backwards as your image will print in reverse.

Using the xacto knife, lightly cut edges of areas you wish to remove. All spaces removed will not print.

Use the tip of the xacto knife to pull back edges of the top layer of the cardboard.

I removed my large areas first. I left the corrugated stripes for now.

Now cut the details.

All cut. Now to the printing.

Place some acrylic paint on a flat surface. I'm using a spare scrap of cardboard, but anything will do.

Roll the paint out evenly so that your brayer is evenly covered with a thin layer of paint.

Roll the paint onto the cardboard print you made.

Next, press your paper of choice onto the print and rub thoroughly with your fingers. If you rub too lightly your image will not transfer well. If you rub too hard you will flatten your print.

Oooooh. Awwwwe.

I will be using this as scrap paper in a collage.

Now I feel like making something else. I am pressing a flour sack towel and rubbing it on the print.

Repetition.

Cute idea, but now that it is photographed I can see how crooked it is. Good thing I have a print that I can use over and over again ;)
