First cut paper into four layers roughly the same size squares
Then rip the paper into long sections. It is important to tear the paper instead of cut as it gives a more natural edge
Then using an unthreaded sewing machine on a free hand setting; sew into the paper to create small holes giving the bark a wood worm effect
Next you will need to scrunch up each piece to make the paper softer and to give a crinkle effect
Sew the strips on top of each other to layer them up
Once sewn cut the layers between the stitches and tear the edges
Once you have cut and separate the layers add a dark brown and black dye or water colour to the separated areas and dry
