Review out to play/count quarter notes.
Your foot really helps you to keep a steady beat if you align it with every beat. Each new beat is a "down" motion.
Repeat review process with eighth notes.
These are eighth notes. Now, there is one foot motion for each note counted or played. Twice as many notes as quarter notes in the same amount of time.
Now, dotted quarter followed by an eighth note. For a full measure, we'll do this twice. Remember that a dot after a note adds half the value.
One of the hardest rhythms for junior high students!
As a beginner, it is very helpful to pulse the eighth notes in your head when you count. Say, "one-uh-uh and three-ee-ee and," while simultaneously tapping your foot. Good luck!
