How to cook brown sugar, bacon, and apple cider turkey

A delicious turkey recipe I threw together for thanksgiving one year.

In the turkey dish, add almost all of the veggies. Save a little bit for inside the turkey cavity though.

Make sure you remove everything from the inside. In the neck, you will find the giblet pack and in the bottom you will find the turkey neck. I'm not using them, so I am putting them aside.

Get 2 Tbsp of butter and soften it.

Use a spatula and separate all of the skin away from the breast meat. Make sure you don't puncture the skin.

Now put the other 1 Tbsp of butter all over the outside of the turkey.

Get your 2 tbsp of brown sugar ready. (I just recycled the butter bowl)

Evenly coat the entire turkey with the brown sugar.

Pour apple cider into the pan with the turkey. Put at least an inch of apple cider in with the turkey. I believe this was around 2 cups for this turkey since it was rather large.

Cover the turkey with tin foil and follow cooking instructions. For my 17 lbs and unstuffed turkey, it says to cook 4-4 1/4 hrs. When an hour left, remove the tin foil so the turkey is golden brown.

Put the thermometer in the thigh to see if it is ready. It should read around 175. It says 180 on the instructions, but the turkey will continue to cook once you remove it from the oven.
