Here is the quickest and easiest way to dice an onion. I'm using an 8 inch Chef Knife. Standard cutting tool and a must for any kitchen

First, cut off the top tip of the onion. Leave the bottom with the root on. This will hold the onion together while you chop it up

Next flip the onion onto the top side you just cut off and cut the onion in half right down the middle of the root. The root will keep both halves intact

Now peel the skin off both halves

Now make a few vertical cuts, equal distance apart. Only cut about 3/4 the length of the onion so it still holds itself together. The more cuts you make, the smaller the dice.
