How to adapt to uk culture (part 1)

British people will queue for everything from getting on a bus to being served at the Post Office. Make sure you join the queue at the back!

People are expected to stick closely to agreed deadlines. If you miss them people may begin to think you are disorganised and unprofessional!

Listening and speaking in a foreign language is tiring. If English is not your first language, you may find that you miss your home language which would have been part of your everyday environment.

Even if you are a fluent English speaker it is possible that the regional accents in the UK will initially make the language harder to understand.

British people have a fairly specific sense of humour, which includes sarcasm and irony. Sarcasm is when you say the opposite of what you mean, which some people find funny!

Most British people tend to have a small breakfast, a middle sized lunch and a larger evening meal. It's tradition to eat Fish & Chips on a Friday.

Queueing for a bus is normal in the UK but getting the bus requires more awareness. A bus will not stop at every bus stop. It will stop only when you stretch your arm out to get the drivers attention.

Many students find that the British climate affects them a lot. You may be used to a much warmer climate, or you may just find the greyness and dampness during the winter months difficult.
